Our earlier article collecting every Colt Anaconda holster on the market is, for some reason, one of the most popular pages on the site. We’ve recieved so many questions about holster fitment between the Anaconda and the New Python that we’ve decided to just pre-empt most of them, giving Colt Python holsters their own dedicated companion post.
Same rules as before apply — no knock-off nylon junk, only quality holsters from reputable brands. 4.25” barrels are our preference, so that’s what we will focus on here. That said almost all of these holsters will be available for multiple barrel lengths of the Python.
As always, we strongly recommend you support brick-and-mortar stores when possible, or purchase directly through the manufacturer. Still, we have to keep the lights on here, so some of the links below will be affiliate links.

Diamond D Custom Leather & Diamond D Outdoors
These folks up in Alaska also create synthetic-material holsters under the Diamond D Outdoors brand, which provides the same high quality they’re known for at reduced price and greater off-the-shelf availability, at the expense of a more “generic fit” on the gun.
Gunfighters Inc.
It looks like GFI is building out their Amazon store, so if you’re interested in purchasing a holster from them, you might want to check there first to see if they have what you need in stock and skip the long lead time for custom holster orders. Of particular note, their tackle link holster is a good solution to running a revolver with an existing chest pack (of particular note to fly fishers).

Craft Holsters
Craft Holsters offers a wide variety of holsters for the Pythons of varying barrel lengths; I won’t include them all here for the sake of not driving myself insane, but you can visit their website and see which options will work best for you. Also, I do not have any personal experience with this brand.

I’m not really sure what exactly the point of their hybrid leather/synthetic holsters are compared to a full-leather holster, but if you like that style, here they are.

El Paso Saddlery
Well-known for their beautiful period-correct holsters, many of their offerings can be made for the Anaconda. Here are a few that can fit “most double actions,” but if you are in the market their website is worth perusing closely.
Galco
They’re always a top choice for me as they marry high build quality with “not six month lead times” like a lot of other manufacturers do. The DAO is a good option if you like crossdraw holsters, which are cool and handy if you spend a lot of time on horseback.

Choosing the Right Colt Python Holster
As I’ve mentioned, I think every outdoorsman will be best served by a two-holster solution. A belt holster enables easy carriage of the firearm when heading to or from your destination, while a chest-mounted solution enables you to easily tote it around in the backcountry, whether carrying a fully-loaded pack or simply a hike back to your favorite trout stream in bear country.
The most important point, though, is to make sure you always have your firearm on you in a quality holster. If your setup is uncomfortable or poorly-built, you’ll likely end up leaving your Python back in the truck when Mr. Grizz decides you need it the most.
